She's a big girl. Well, that's probably not entirely true. At her last check up she was right around average, but it feels that way to me. When feeding her, she no longer fits comfortably right across my body; her legs wiggle around and hit the chair's armrests if I'm not careful. Baby clothes sizes are obviously not a good indicator for how big a child is, also because it can vary so much by brand, but she's just outgrowing her 9 m clothes and is wearing anything up to 18 m. Socks never stay on - she loves to take her socks off and play with her toes. Which baby doesn't?
She loves to play with water. She had a ton of fun at the pool a few weeks ago and loves to take baths. I usually get in the bathtub with both kids when Ava gets her bath and she loves to wiggle around and splash and somehow thinks it's funny when big brother dumps water on her head.
Unlike her brother, she's not very interested in food yet. To be fair, we haven't made a huge effort to introduce it, but she sits at the table with us and we give her something to chew on. She enjoys playing with chunks of apple or pear, or a carrot, and puts it in her mouth, but it's just a yummy tasting toy for her at the moment. She hates it when we try to spoon feed her something, so we don't. I'm in no rush, and I think my mom made a good point when she was here last week, that Ava is just busy developing other skills at the moment. I'm sure she'll let us know when she's ready.
Ava loves to explore things with her hands, and loves to make sounds. When we're outside, she refuses to go to sleep even when she's so very tired, always looking, looking, looking with her big beautiful eyes. Yesterday, I was standing under our pear tree with her, which is currently in full spring bloom, and she started giggling looking at the branches moving in the wind. How sweet!
She is in love with her big brother, gets super excited when she sees him in the mornings, and laughs at the silly things he does. It's the most adorable thing to watch.
Ava is rolling over like a champ but doesn't sit up on her own yet. She sits in her high chair with support though while we eat. She likes it because she gets to use her hands to play and practice her fine motor skills.
She's a talker. It's the cutest thing, and I can't help but smile when she wakes us up at 6 am on a Saturday morning telling us stories. Dadada is her newest expression, but she also blows raspberries, "sings" along to songs in the car, and makes a variety of different sounds.
For a while she did really great at falling asleep on her own in her own crib (which is in our bedroom), but that hasn't been working out so well lately. She rather wants to fall asleep snuggling in our soft bed. And I can't blame her. I'm a bit nervous that it's going to take us another two years to get her out of our bed, but I love the snuggles too, and if that's what she currently needs, then so be it. It's not like we hadn't already been co-sleeping for the rest of the night anyway. She goes to bed at around 7:30 pm and wakes up at around 10 pm for the first time to eat. Usually right after I've fallen asleep of course. I then bring her into bed with us where she stays for the rest of the night. Don't ask how often she wakes up to eat, I wouldn't be able to tell you as I usually fall right back asleep while she's nursing. She's also been doing lots of comfort nursing lately as well.
Overall, she's a very happy and easy baby, can entertain herself with toys and toes for a good amount of time, loves to be carried around in her carrier, and let's us know when she needs or wants something, but doesn't whine or cry with no apparent reason. She seems to really just enjoy hanging out with us and loves to be a part of this family. We're so lucky.
