My weekend trip to the other Washington

I started writing this post back in June while in Washington, DC, but for some reason never finished it. I had planned to go into detail about the wedding and the city, but now it seems like what I had already written down is really all I needed to say. So I'll leave it at that.

As I am typing this I’m sitting outside at a pizza place in Arlington, VA wearing just a summer dress at 8pm. The heat and humidity during the day are not for me, but I love evenings like today when it has cooled off just enough but you can still feel the summer heat in the air. This is my last night here and I’m enjoying my quiet and alone time (and my alcohol-free malt beverage). It’s been a great weekend with lots of love, friendship, laughter, tears of joy, and happiness.

My dear friend got married to a great guy and I had the honor of being invited to celebrate their special day with them. Earlier this month had also been our 5 year anniversary of graduating from our LL.M. program at UW so the timing was perfect for a little mini reunion. I made some great friends during that time and even though we may not talk to each other all that often, I love having this group of smart young ladies in my life. We have a regular email thread where we discuss all kinds of topics so we know what’s going on in each other’s lives and the world and I enjoy having a group of friends outside of my everyday life. It allows for some important perspective on the big picture sometimes which I enjoy. I’ve also enjoyed watching us all turn into the women we are today. I know I’ve grown up and matured a great deal in the last 5 years and my time at UW was really just the beginning of this big adventure of starting a new life here in the U.S. It seemed like we were all looking for an adventure, for a chance at something bigger, for the next big thing. And we’ve all come such a long way, exploring life, finding love, going through times of happiness and having to deal with moments of uncertainty, reevaluating our goals in life and figuring out who we are and want to be. Each of our lives are so different and unique and spread out over different continents, but are somehow connected at the same time. It’s an honor to be surrounded by a group of strong young women who continue to surprise and inspire each other. I just love to see how far we each have come and witness the amazing things that can happen when people take their lives into their own hands and follow their paths. Ladies, I hope you feel the same way and remember this next time you’re in doubt about where life is taking you.

Here are some pictures I took sightseeing. DC was hot and humid and I only got a small glimpse of the city, but I really enjoyed the impressive architecture and the big city feel.

Had to take the train from Baltimore to DC. The train station reminded me of Germany,

If I remember correctly, Donald Trump is remodeling part of this into a new hotel complex. He should stick to that.

FBI building I think. It was so interesting to see old massive pretty buildings next to these ugly square buildings everywhere. I wonder if the insides have been remodeled much or also still have this lovely 50s (?) flair.

You can tell - it was hot and humid that day... I'm sure everyone always says this, but I could not believe how small the White House is.

We tried to take some fun pictures with the National Monument, but failed miserably. Ha ha.

Yes, a German-American Friendship Garden by the National Monument. It smelled like peppermint.

we still got lost...

Got this Taiwanese Whiskey sampler from my dear friend Julie. Can't wait to try it.
